In collaboration with Mayday Domestic Abuse Services, we have curated this training, each module reflecting our deep understanding, expertise, and frontline experience in child protection. It’s a journey from introductory to advanced levels of learning, structured flexibly to meet the needs of both novice and experienced practitioners. Module1: Domestic Abuse Awareness

The first half-day module ensures anyone interacting with families is equipped with the requisite domestic abuse knowledge, enabling confident action to safeguard child and adult victims. It’s vital because “Safeguarding is everyone’s business”.

Key Learning Outcomes:

  1. Deepened understanding of the evidence around domestic abuse.
  2. Ability to identify various forms of domestic abuse.
  3. Comprehensive awareness of the impact of domestic abuse on children and families.
  4. Improved understanding of domestic abuse indicators and barriers to disclosure.
  5. Insight into the “invisible nature and hidden harm” of domestic abuse.

 

Module 2: Domestic Abuse Skills to Respond

This one-day advanced training is for professionals already familiar with Module 1 and directly interacting with families – equipping you to appropriately and safely respond to instances of domestic abuse.

Key Learning Outcomes:

  1. Enhanced awareness of the prevalence of domestic abuse.
  2. Knowledge of the legal framework and duties towards child and adult victims.
  3. Familiarity with the Recognise/Respond/Refer model and the risk indicator DASH.
  4. Improved interviewing skills, enabling sensitive, empathetic, and culturally appropriate conversations about domestic abuse.

 

Module 3: Enhanced Domestic Abuse for Children’s Services Frontline Practitioners  

Our most intensive module, this two-day programme, enables professionals to work more effectively with children and families. It provides a profound understanding of domestic abuse and how trauma and intersectionality impact people’s experiences.

Key Learning Outcomes:

  1. Knowledge of the guiding principles for working with families experiencing domestic abuse.
  2. Enhanced understanding of the laws relevant to domestic abuse and protecting children and adults.
  3. An in-depth comprehension of a trauma-informed approach to assessing parenting capacity in domestic abuse cases.

Module 4: Domestic Abuse for Case Managers and Supervisors 

Module 4 focuses on the critical tasks of effective case management, supervision, and evaluation in handling complex and challenging domestic abuse cases.

Key Learning Outcomes:

  1. Advanced knowledge of effective case management practices.
  2. Understanding of the role of the supervisor in supporting caseworker safety and well-being.
  3. Competencies to manage complex domestic abuse cases.

We strongly advocate for a classroom-based learning experience for optimal results, though online courses with the same content are available. The difference lies in the hands-on practice in a safe environment, particularly useful when analysing case studies and honing skills.
